About Rapidan Crew

Rapidan Crew was formed in the Spring of 2004 by a group of Rowing enthusiasts at Lake of the Woods. The University of Mary Washington provided both the use of their equipment and rowing instruction in the beginning which played a big part in getting Rapidan Crew off to a running start. In just one year Rapidan Crew has secured 6 boats of there own to accommodate each flavor of rowing (eight, quad, double, single). Our membership has grown to over 20 members to include youth and adult rowing.

"From New England ,especially the Boston area ,I have long been aware of the sport of rowing. It took our wonderful LOW lake, the coaching from the University of Mary Washington crew members, the formation of RAPIDAN CREW and support of my rowing colleagues for me to finally realize the exhilerating sport of rowing. You can also enjoy this rewarding sport." -- Harvey Miller

"Where else can you chat with friends, enjoy a breathtaking sunset and power row yourself into a smaller dress size at the same time." -- Kathy Dunn

"I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to LOW management and those supporting committees who allowed us the pleasure and enjoyment last week of watching the College rowing crew team scrimmages that LOW so graciously hosted. These strong, healthy young men and women functioning in close, cooperative, precision teamwork provide a wonderful example and role model not only for our own young people, but also for the rest of us. In addition to continuing to be a good neighbor to surrounding communities, LOW continues to build good will for itself. The UMW crew team has also been instrumental in organizing and training our own LOW rowing clubs, not only at the youth level, but also for the rest of us old timers. What a wonderful partnership! That we can do this sort of thing with no discernable cost to our community is a tribute to LOW BOD, management, and those many volunteers who contribute so much to making this such a wonderful community in which to live. My thanks to all!!"-- Noel Horn
